Coach K won his 903rd game with Bobby Knight in attendance last night. With that, he has passed his mentor and put himself on a collision course with 1000. I’m very happy for Coach K because I was never a Duke hater, and I always appreciated how well his teams played. Good job, coach.
Ohio State won their rematch of an old national title game rivalry with Florida. Even though Ohio State is ranked number three and Florida is ranked number seven, there is a big gap there because the Buckeyes have Jared Sullinger and Florida does not. Sullinger is THAT good, and Florida, while talented, is just not THAT good. Actually, I’m surprised that Florida is ranked this high the more I think about. They will be alright, but I don’t think they’re a serious contender. They just have a nice ranking right now.
Kentucky was able to beat Kansas in a game that was actuallya national title game rematch of coaches. Remember, Calipari’s Memphis team lost to Kansas when Mario Chalmers put the dagger in the Tigers’ hearts himself. It should have been a marquis game, but Coach K’s 903rd win took the day. That’s not a bad thing, but when you get big programs together for a game–you hope that it becomes a spectacle. Maybe next time guys.
In other news, I still don’t trust Vandy. They were losing to Bucknell when I checked the game and I was thinking that they might just give away another win. They did not, but I think we see that Vandy is not all that they were cracked up to be.
The moral of this story? Let’s do rankings a few weeks into the season. In college football, it’s slightly misleading. In basketball, it’s VERY misleading.
Let’s hope the end of this week brings some good games.
