And Vandy Falls, Other Top 25 Issues

by Patton on November 14, 2011

I had wondered if Vandy was worth being number seven in the polls, and I was right.  They lost to, an admittedly good, Cleveland St. team 71-58.  Of course, some of that is score inflation at the end of the game, but that’s still pretty bad for a team that is supposed to be seventh best team in the nation.  I mean, I’m not sure how they fell like this, in this moment, but they did.  Now, they are going to have to spend much of the season getting back some credibility with voters.  Oops.

News Flash:  UNC and Duke are both good.  They’re continuing the reign of just those two schools as the really good teams in the ACC.  I haven’t seen anyone in the conference step up yet, but it’s early.  When we get to conference play, the idea of someone stepping up will become a little bit easier to see and figure.

When we look at the Big East, we are seeing that the conference is, again, very strong.  However, we are going to have to get used to disappointment because that strength is going away.  I get excited thinking of all the matchups, so I’m going to have to get used to being a little disappointed after this year.

All in all, with the Carrier Classic and everything else we’ve gotten early in this season, I’m going to be a big believer in college basketball.  I think we can have a good season if we’ve had UNC step up, Duke stpe up, a top 10 team lose already, and one more battle of the original Big East.  Let’s just hope it stays this way because we love the drama.

Let’s hope we get a top ten loss every week with a big spectacle to boot.  That will bring new teams to the top ten and make each conference shuffle much more fast and exciting.
