Another Night Of Tight Games

It's All Drama At The Tourney

As of this writing there’s just a couple minutes left in the SDSU/UCONN and BYU/Florida games.  Each one is within just a few points, and each is giving just more of a taste of how mad this March has been.

As I tuned in I noticed a couple things:

1.  Steve Fisher looks REALLY old.  He’s still coaching well, but he just looks so old.  Maybe he’s gained some wisdom as he’s aged?  Game-changing wisdom?

2.  The deficits are being stretched even as I write this, and I think that means some teams are running out of gas.  As BYU and SDSU start to fall behind it makes me wonder if they were really good, but not built for the long haul.  Jim Calhoun and Billy Donovan both have two rings.  I think that says something about the potential outcomes of these games.

3.  If Jimmermania ends, does that make the Final Four less exciting?

About 20 minutes later…

As BYU and Florida come to the end of their game I can’t help but notice that now Florida is receding in play as BYU pushes forward.  It’s funny that just a few minutes ago I was pimping Billy Donovan as Mr. Two Titles, and now BYU is pushing Florida to the limit.

That doesn’t mean BYU will win the game, but I find it interesting that we can go so far in one direction and teams respond in mid-game to what everyone in America is thinking.  ”They.  Can’t.  Do.  It.”

BYU has its finger on America’s pulse apparently.  Few things impress me more than a team that can EMOTIONALLY respond to their opponent instead of just getting angry, throwing around hard fouls, and playing their way out of the game.  Win or lose, BYU is damned good.

In the end, UCONN goes to the Elite Eight and BYU and Florida go to overtime.  I love drama this time of year!
