This is a little bit out of my area, but I thought it was a nice story and deserved a comment. BYU has reinstated Brandon Davies. He’s the guy who violated the university’s honor code and was taken off the team during their magical run last year. Well, now he’s back, but he’s there sans Jimmer.
The Cougars will still be a good team, and Davies will likely be their leader. Let’s just hope that they don’t get squashed by expectations now that their best player is in the NBA.
Also, the Tennessee Mens’ basketball program has not been given a postseason ban by the NCAA. It appears that they’ve gone through enough, and the NCAA isn’t going to levy that penalty on them as well.
The school was smart to self report, because now we see what that means to the NCAA when they are making decisions about how to punish certain schools for the things that they do. They’re under a new coach now, but he’s only going to have to deal with some recruiting restrictions. That’s much better than not being able to take your shot in March.
Hopefully, this means that the Vols can return to prominence. We can say that it was all Bruce Pearl (and alot of it was), but there are some really good players at Tennessee, and I think that they can make big strides under a new coach. The only thing we can do is wait. I know I want to see a big tournament run out of them, and it would be a major story in the sport if they could pull that off after everything that has happened to them over the past few months.
Let’s see if we don’t get some really nice feelgood stories out of this in the near future.
