Back in 2004, I wasted my time trying to keep up with Georgia Tech in the national title game against UCONN. GT spent all that time getting to the title game, but I was on a nice trip with my wife. We took a cool night tour and I just checked the game on my phone (back then, a Sidekick) and, lo and behold, the game was over before halftime. I should have learned my lesson.
Yesterday, I heard Colin Cowherd say, “I’m not watching it to the end.” Heck, he may not have even tried to watch it at all. You know what? I don’t blame him.
53-41. That’s all I get for staying up with the newborn until the wee hours to watch Butler lose. 41 points. That’s all I get. Seriously? You’d think I would’ve learned my lesson back in 2004.
So, that’s another team I’m scratching off my list. Sorry, Butler. I said lots of nice things about you and your coach, but you can’t just lay down in the title game when I’m taking my time out to watch you. YOU. Not UCONN.
By the way, congrats to UCONN. This third title puts Jim Calhoun in rare space in the coaching pantheon and he deserves it.
A friend made a good point on Facebook this morning. You know who the winner was in all this? The BCS.
Nobody wants to see hokey from fenokey get to the title game and lay down. Now, everybody is rethinking their “I want to see TCU in the BCS title game” including me.
Do we really want to see that? Is the idea really worth it if we’d get something like that? I have to ask since I just watched the worst title game ever.
Wow!
Alright BCS, this time you win, but be forewarned — we’re still mad at you.
