SMU hired Larry Brown to bring its basketball program back from the brink of complete disaster. They’ve also now set up a situation where the program can be kept consistent even after Brown leaves. Because Larry Brown is so old, it is wise to make sure that he has someone bringing up the rear to make sure that the program doesn’t take a dramatic drop when Brown leaves or retires.

I know this is not really the best time for this, so, I think it’s time to just yank off the band aid and talk about it. Texas A&M and Missouri (who is scorching hot in college hoops right now,) have made a deal with the Big 12 to leave and move to the SEC. Yep, they finally did it AND this is right in the middle of an incredible run by the Missouri basketball team. I would say that this is bad timing, but it needed to get done before football season, and we all know that bureacrats can take a long time.

It’s official, West Virginia is leaving the Big East for the Big 12. Officially, we have destroyed the idea of regional conferences. West Virginia’s nearest conference opponent is, at a cursory glance, likely one of the Oklahoma schools. So, that means they can help buoy the conference for now, and they can potentially go someplace where they can continue to grow as a football program.

When people look at the USA Today Coaches Poll and see that Baylor is ranked No. 12 above Kansas (No. 13), Texas A&M (No. 19) and Texas (not ranked), it would be understandable for them to think that surely there must have been a typo.
After missing the postseason last year, how could Baylor possibly contend for a Big 12 championship?

Remember the days when the Big 12 actually had 12 teams?
Nebraska was the first to jump ship for the Big Ten. Then Colorado moved on to the Pac-12. And now it would appear that Texas A&M is headed for the SEC.
This means the Big 12 is actually a Mediocre 9 at the moment. And although basketball season hasn’t started yet, these changes will have an effect on the basketball programs.
The question on everyone’s mind: Which schools should the Big 12 court with the hope of luring them over to their now depleted conference.

Missouri Tigers head coach Frank Haith was heavily criticized by fans during the interview process back in April because of his mediocre record as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.
But now Haith is more concerned with keeping his job than worrying about what a few fans think.
As the sordid scandal at the University of Miami begins to further unfold, Haith is a prime example of how no one who was involved with Miami athletics in any way, shape or from is safe. Ever since Miami booster Nevin Shapiro let the cat out of the bag in a shocking Yahoo! Sports story that named over 70 athletes and several coaches who were implicated in accepting millions of dollars worth of cash, jewelry, trips, meals and prostitutes, every one has been ducking for cover.

Ohio State, Kansas. Kansas, Ohio State. Which one is the best team left standing? It’s so easy to forget they’re even here because there are so many other storylines in the tournament that have nothing to do with the Jayhawks or the Buckeyes.
Kansas sports the Morris twins and Bill Self. Ohio State has Jared Sullinger, a three-point shooting marvel, and some experience on their side.
Everyone keeps saying that Ohio State is the best team because Sullinger is a player of the year candidate and they have veteran presence on the team. However, some people counter that Bill Self has already won a title and knows how to get through the tournament without any “major” problems.
