As if things couldn’t get any worse for the UCLA Bruins, who have started their 2011-12 season 0-2, now word has gotten out that head coach Ben Howland has suspended junior forward Reeves Nelson indefinitely due to attitude issues that have surfaced during the past few weeks.
“This is a very disappointing situation for Reeves and our basketball program,” Howland said in a statement. “We have a high standard and code of conduct that our student-athletes are expected to adhere to and Reeves has fallen short of our expectations.”

The Arizona Wildcats are proving why the rich only get richer.
That’s because seven-foot center Kaleb Tarczewski (the No. 6 recruit in the nation) has committed to Sean Miller and Arizona.
The Wildcats, who are quickly becoming a recruiting machine, already had the top-ranked recruiting class for 2012 with five-star players Brandon Ashley (No. 4 in the nation; 6’8″, 215 lbs.) and Grant Jerrett (No. 9; 6’10″, 220 lbs.). Oh yeah, they also landed four-star guard Gabe York (No. 36; 6’1″, 170 lbs.)
And now with Tarczewski, a guy who looks like he’s built to be a monster of a linebacker, Arizona is only that much deeper.

Arizona Wildcats forward Kevin Parrom is OK, but it is never good news when someone gets shot.
That’s exactly what happened to Parrom, who was shot once behind his right knee early Saturday during a dispute at his home in Bronx, N.Y., a New York Police Department spokesman confirmed Monday morning.
According to Lt. John Grimpel of the NYPD, the 20-year-old Parrom was shot at 1:05 a.m. Saturday after two men approached him.

Just how far are programs willing to go to obtain the services of the consensus No. 1 recruit in the class of 2012, Shabazz Muhammad?
Well, apparently out in Las Vegas, pretty far.
It is being reported that a diehard fan is willing to name his first child after Shabazz Muhammad if he commits to play for the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels.
Now that’s dedication, especially when you consider how thankful your son or daughter will be with a name like Shabazz.

Recruiting is everything in college sports.
With this in mind, some were were questioning why the Arizona Wildcats decide to hire Sean Miller as their new head coach in April of 2009. Given where he had grown up (Beaver County, Pennsylvania), his alma mater (University of Pittsburgh) and his previous coaching jobs (Wisconsin, Miami of Ohio, Pitt, NC State and Xavier), one could argue that he wouldn’t be able to recruit West Coast players because, well, he’s never been on the West Coast before.
But if you have watched the video above, you now know that not to be true.

Duke and Arizona tipped off last night late in the east, and by the time it was over the Blue Devils had nothing left in the tank and Arizona was on its way to the Elite Eight.
Sean Miller has done a phenomenal job pulling Arizona out of the doldrums and making them back into a powerful team. I can remember the days when Zona was a one seed almost every year. Now, they are rebuilding and a big part of that rebuilding was a win against Duke last night.
