DRAFT PREVIEW: NBA Mock Draft

by Shaun on June 26, 2012

NBA MOCK DRAFT BY SHAUN
Anthony Davis

  1. New Orleans New Orleans | Anthony Davis | 6-10 | 222 | PF | Kentucky | 19

Consensus #1 Pick, 100% sure he will be selected here and has not worked out for any other team.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

  2. Charlotte Charlotte | Michael Kidd-Gilchrist | 6-7 | 233 | SF | Kentucky | 18

I think MJ will take MKG under his wing and try to develop him into a star. Has the attributes to defend, rebound and attack the basket, however he has an unusual shooting stroke. With the help of MJ, this can be corrected at the age of 18, as he has plenty of time to develop. May reach for Beal for greater offensive power or a big man in Robinson.

Young Thunder Learn Tough Lesson in Loss to Heat

by Ben Millikan on June 22, 2012

The 2012 NBA season is over, the Miami Heat are champions and LeBron James has his first ring.

But buried beneath the endless LeBron coverage (he’s literally been on ESPN all day) is an Oklahoma City team that simply couldn’t keep up with the Heat in the 2012 NBA Finals. For the young team, it was definitely a learning experience, especially for their leader, Kevin Durant. The three-time defending scoring champion may have left the court in tears after the Game 5 loss, but there’s reason to be optimistic about this Thunder team moving forward.

When LeBron James ditched the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat on national television in 2010, the goal right from the start was to win championships. Multiple championships. Pairing superstar Dwyane Wade and power forward Chris Bosh, the Heat were the team to beat and instantly became the villains of the NBA. This pairing of the “Big Three” had been in the works for quite some time, going all the way back to 2007-2008 when the organization led by team president Pat Riley, scouted the 2010 NBA Free Agent list and from there, formulated a plan to lure James for less money, but ultimately provide him a better chance of getting what he desperately wanted the most: a ring and to finally become part of the elite club of champions.

It’s hard to believe that this is LeBron James’ ninth year in the NBA. If Thursday goes his way, it will be his most memorable.

After battling through painful leg cramps and still managing to put up 26 points and bring down nine rebounds, LeBron and the Miami Heat were able to hold off the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 104-98 victory in Game 4, giving them a commanding 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals and putting the King one game away from that elusive first championship.

Cleveland-based artist/designer George Vlosich will probably be the last guy in Cleveland to ever forgive LeBron James. But rather than burn No. 23 jerseys or spew vitriol on messageboards, Vlosich has found a constructive—and quite comical—way to channel his contempt for the King: t-shirts.

Although George and his brother/associate Greg Vlosich say they don’t truly hate James, they were just as unhappy with “The Decision” as the rest of Cleveland.

“We hate the way he did it and what he did to our city on national TV,” Greg wrote in a recent email to Playbook.

LeBron James, Miami Heat Win Game 2 of NBA Finals

by Ben Millikan on June 15, 2012

LeBron James once again dropped at least 30 on the Oklahoma City Thunder, but unlike Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Finals, Game 2 had a much more favorable outcome for LeBron and the Miami Heat.

Unlike the first game of the series, when Miami blew a 13-point lead, the Heat were able to withstand the Thunder‘s fourth-quarter surge and hold onto a 100-96 victory, tying the NBA Finals at one game apiece.

There’s no doubt that LeBron James was the MVP of the 2012 NBA regular season. But Kevin Durant did everything he could to plant seeds of doubt in the minds of basketball fans and pundits alike with his performance in Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Finals.

Durant even added a bit of irony to the situation by saving his best for last Tuesday night, having the type of fourth quarter than LeBron James can only dream of. Durant scored 17 of his 36 points in the final frame, leading his Oklahoma City Thunder to a 105-94 victory over the Miami Heat.
