As anyone could imagine, Steve Nash ran circles around the Portland guards in route to a 125-107 demolition.
The Suns (32-29) eyeing for the last playoff spot as they got a lift from the Houston Rockets losing to Denver, the Trail Blazers (28-34) treating this game and the rest of their five game stretch as prime time for the rookies to strut their stuff and possibly earn a role on the roster next season.
In the NBA, with struggles comes the inevitable effect of trade rumors, and at this point in the season, there are none bigger than the ones surrounding Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns.
At 9-14, the Suns are by no means having a disaster of a season, but they are definitely not a playoff team at this point. And following recent blowout losses to the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers, some in Phoenix wish that Nash would change his stance on not wanting to be traded to a contender so that the team can at least build for the future.
I am in New York for a conference and saw that the Knicks was playing the Suns tonight at Madison Square Garden. I had never been to MSG before, so I could pass up the opportunity to see the famous arena, plus take in an NBA game.
It was fun to finally see Steve Nash (26 points and 11 assists) and Amare Stoudemire (23 points) in person. Nash closed the game out for the Suns, hitting some big three throw at the end as the Suns prevailed 91-88.
Ah, it’s the age old question. Should the Suns trade Steve Nash so they can start rebuilding? Well, of course they should. If for nothing else than respect, they should trade him just so he doesn’t have to be on this team anymore. So, where do you trade him?
Nash was asked by Marc Stein if he should ask for a trade. Nash said:
“What does that mean? Do I go in and say, ‘Trade me to a top two or three team?’ I think it’s lot more difficult than people think.”
Phoenix Suns president and chief executive Rick Welt made a surprising announcement Friday when he told the team that he was stepping down for personal reasons.
“I’m not ready to go play golf or go on a speaking tour,” Welts said. “I definitely feel I have a lot left to give to the professional sports industry.”
Welts said that he plans on relocating to northern California where he hopes to write a book.
The 58-year-old former NBA front-office executive created headlines back in June when he openly announced he was gay. Weltz became the first senior sports executive to openly acknowledge he was gay.
Just days after rumors surfaced of a major trade involving Kevin Love for the Los Angeles Lakers Pau Gasol, Minnesota is now reportedly shopping their No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft to the Phoenix Suns.
That’s right, after an incredible 19-year career, Shaquille O’Neal is calling it quits.
Of course, with Shaq nothing is conventional, so instead of holding a press conference or informing a trusted journalist or reporter, The Big Daddy took it to the social networks of Twitter and Tout and did it himself.
“We did it. Nineteen years baby. I want to thank you very much, that’s why I’m telling you first, I’m about to retire. Love you, talk to you soon.”
The Memphis Grizzlies weren’t quick enough to the table. Or maybe it was the Pacers fault. But the supposed deal that would’ve sent O.J. Mayo to Indiana wasn’t finalized before the 3pm Eastern Time cutoff. With that being said, here is a quick list of all the important names that are currently on the move after a crazy week of trades.
The predictability of the NBA has gotten so bad that some teams don’t even bother showing up for certain games. Just ask the Celtics and Lakers.
The two powerhouses of their respective conferences will meet Sunday for the first time since last season’s NBA Finals when the Lakers beat the Celtics in seven games. But with all of the hype surrounding Sunday’s rematch, both teams forgot they actually had games to play on Friday night.
