Let’s say all the rambling is right and Mizzou decides it might be better off in the SEC or the Big East. First off, is that really that bad for the Big 12 since they’re already looking like they’ll crumble anyways? Well, T. Boone Pickens says they’ve “got a real problem” if Missouri leaves. I think they’ve already got a real problem. As in, the Big 12 is pretty much dead in the water. That was pretty obvious. We’re getting super conferences, but this isn’t going to be one of them.
If Missouri goes to the SEC or Big East, that would be pretty interesting.
If they go to the SEC, that would mean that they are going to bring their brand of basketball to a conference that is not like what they’d play in the SEC. However, they could be competitive and step over some of the Auburn’s and Alabama’s of the SEC. That would make everything more competitive and interesting. That’s kind of cool.
If they go to the Big East, they would get lost in some of the shuffle, but they could be a very good spoiler and season-ruiner in that conference. To me, that’s also very interesting because they haven’t really been able to stay consistently good in the Big 12.
They could forge a whole new identity in another conference. They could become something besides “we’re not Kansas or Texas” in another conference.
In fact, in the SEC, they would be the outsider that plays differently. That would be great for them and very good for the conference because they would have to play like a Big 12 team in another conference. However, they’ve been good enough that they can influence style because of their position in the conference.
No one will want to get embarrassed. That’s not a bad deal for Mizzou, and they need it.
