How Valuable Are You?

by Patton on January 27, 2012

It’s really no shock that the Lakers are the most valuable franchise in basketball.  Duh, right?  However, looking at who has the most value is kind of interesting once you get past the Lakers.

Of course, the Knicks were second.  Both of those teams garner huge value because of their TV contracts.  That’s not really a surprise.  Chicago came in third, again, not surprising.  Big media markets help.

Dallas, Boston, and Miami are next.  We can all see that, right?  Plus, I’m kind of surprised the Heat are not higher, but that speaks to the media market in Miami.  It’s not as big as we would imagine.

At number eight is Golden State.  Now, the Warriors are basically a mess that has been put around Stephen Curry.  However, they are in the Bay Area.  This is why it’s shocking that they have sucked for so long.  How can they not get people to play there or make the team look more attractive when they have this much value?  If that’s not a huge disappointment, I don’t know what is.

With New Jersey down at #14, I think that their new Russian owner is planning to change that.  They’re basically in New York, they’re moving to Brooklyn, and they have a superstar.  It’s something that is kind of surprising, but if you look at how bad they’ve been, it’s not a shock.  But, remember, they are less valuable than Golden State.  Weird, huh?

When you get to the bottom, you find the Bucks.  Kind of surprised it isn’t the Cavs or the Pacers, but you can see why.  Milwaukee has nothing.  It’s a sad place for basketball.

As we can see, value is not everything, but it certainly helps.  Is your team working to increase its value?  I surely hope so, because mine is.
